Lake Mooney is one of the best spots in Stafford to hand a kid a fishing pole. The 520-acre lake is stocked with bass, catfish, sunfish, bluegill and crappie, and there is a boat ramp for electric motors and a separate canoe launch for paddling. A hiking trail follows the shoreline when little ones need a break from waiting for a bite, and there is a restroom on site. Anyone 16 or older needs a Virginia fishing license.
