The Corgi Clay Art Center in Stafford, VA is committed to providing high-quality ceramics education that nurtures creativity, confidence, and lifelong artistic appreciation in young people. Our youth ceramics programs are designed to introduce children and teens to the rewarding process of working with clay while encouraging self-expression, critical thinking, and hands-on learning in a welcoming studio environment.
Our core youth offerings include 8-week classes that meet once each week, allowing students the time to develop their skills, build confidence, and experience the complete ceramic process—from shaping clay to glazing and finishing their work. Our Youth Hand-Building classes, designed for children ages 6–12, introduce students to fundamental ceramic techniques such as pinching, coiling, slab construction, and surface decoration. Through imaginative, age-appropriate projects, students explore their creativity while developing fine motor skills, patience, and problem-solving abilities.
For older students, our Teen Throwing & Sculpture program, designed for ages 13–16, offers a more advanced exploration of ceramics. Teens learn pottery wheel fundamentals while also creating expressive sculptural work through hand-building techniques. These classes encourage artistic growth, technical skill development, and creative experimentation while providing students with opportunities to challenge themselves and discover their own artistic voice.

In addition to our weekly classes, Corgi Clay Art Center offers a variety of one-day weekend workshops throughout the year. These workshops provide flexible opportunities for new and returning students to experience ceramics without the commitment of a full session. Seasonal themes, specialty projects, and technique-focused workshops keep young artists engaged while offering families additional creative experiences.
Our programs are led by experienced ceramic artists who believe that the creative process is just as valuable as the finished piece. Students are encouraged to experiment, embrace mistakes as learning opportunities, and take pride in creating something with their own hands. Small class sizes allow for individualized instruction, ensuring that each student receives the guidance and encouragement they need to succeed.
Beyond teaching ceramic techniques, our youth programs foster perseverance, confidence, collaboration, and creative problem-solving—skills that extend well beyond the studio. At Corgi Clay Art Center, we strive to create an inclusive, inspiring space where every child and teen feels welcome to explore their imagination, develop new skills, and experience the lasting satisfaction of transforming a simple lump of clay into a meaningful work of art.
