The Corgi Clay Art Center offers engaging youth ceramics programs in Fredericksburg, VA designed to inspire creativity, build confidence, and develop artistic skills in a fun, supportive studio environment. Their 8-week classes meet once a week, allowing students to build skills over time while creating meaningful, handcrafted ceramic projects.

Youth Hand-Building classes, for ages 6–12, introduce foundational clay techniques through imaginative projects that encourage creativity and problem-solving. Teen Throwing & Sculpture classes, for ages 13–16, challenge older students to develop technical skills on the pottery wheel while exploring sculptural forms and personal artistic expression.

Figure 8 Ink Studios offers creative art classes for kids, teens, and adults in Spotsylvania County, VA, with hands-on projects designed to encourage creativity, artistic exploration, and self-expression. Classes rotate regularly, giving students opportunities to experiment with different mediums, techniques, and styles in a welcoming studio environment.

Classes explore everything from drawing and painting to ceramics, felting, mixed media, 3D art, printmaking, textiles, wood burning, and more. Most classes last approximately 1.5–2 hours, with materials provided, making it easy to try something new without purchasing your own supplies. Classes are offered for a variety of ages and skill levels, with children ages 0–3 accompanied and assisted by an adult.

LoK Fashion Academy, part of LoK Fashion Institute in Stafford, Virginia, is a hands-on fashion design school founded by FIT graduate Marie King. For over 30 years, it has taught students of all ages — from young children to retirees — the technical and creative skills needed for a career in fashion.

The curriculum progresses through Sewing Basics, Basics II, Tailoring, and Pattern Making, building students from first stitches to original garment design. Survival Swim Lessons in Fredericksburg

For Ages: 6 months to 6 years old

The final 2026 session start dates for new swimmers are September 7 and October 19th, register now!

Mighty Floaters Infant Aquatics offers specialized survival swim programs designed to teach infants and young children critical water-safety and self-rescue skills. Depending on their age, children learn how to independently float, rest and breathe, and swim toward safety through a structured four- to six-week program.

The Rollback-to-Float program is designed for infants ages 6 to 15 months and teaches them to hold their breath, roll onto their backs, float independently, and rest while waiting for help. The Swim-Float-Swim program is designed for walking children ages 15 months to 6 years old and teaches them to swim, roll onto their backs to float and rest when tired, and repeat the sequence until they reach safety.

Lessons are currently held in the mornings at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School off Route 3.

Survival Swim Classes

For Ages: 6 months to 6 years old

Currently enrolling for August 24th session at the Jeff Rouse Center. This is a morning session and has limited time slots between 7:00AM and 8:50AM.

We are Fredericksburg’s first Survival Swim School! At Otter-ly Safe Infant Aquatics, we offer lessons for 6 months (and independently sitting for 2 months) up until about age 6 (depending on height). We teach swimmers self rescue skills in the water, how to have fun safely in the water, and support parents in how to keep their children in and around water.

When a swimmer graduates our program, they will be able to find and maintain their float, and for our swimmers 15m+, be able to swim independently and roll to their back to find their air.

We offer 6 week programs and have a high success rate for mastery, based on attendance. Our lessons are 1:1 with our trained instructors for 10 minutes Monday-Thursday for the duration of the program.

How can you choose an afterschool program for your child?

If you can, try before you buy or take a tour – so many places offer a free trial class or introductory offer. Also, think about the drive at 5 p.m. on a school night and not at 10 a.m. on a Saturday. Traffic might not always be what you expect and it can impact how long it takes you to travel to and from a program afterschool. One activity done happily beats three done exhausted!
