2. Fabulous Fourth at Ferry Farm (250th Anniversary Edition)

George Washington’s Ferry Farm is going all-in for America’s 250th. This Americana-themed Independence Day event commemorates the 250th anniversary at the boyhood home of George Washington, right on the banks of the Rappahannock River in Stafford County.

While Ferry Farm itself doesn’t host a fireworks display, it’s traditionally been a major daytime stop on the Fourth in Fredericksburg event circuit. In 2026 it’s expected to be one of the most popular history-themed celebrations in the area. After spending the day there, families typically head to one of the regional fireworks viewing spots in the evening.

Annual Fireworks Events Around Fredericksburg (2026 Details TBD)

These are the longstanding 4th of July traditions in our area. As of right now, official 2026 schedules haven’t been published, but based on each event’s history, here’s what you can typically expect. We’ll update this post as 2026 details are confirmed!

3. Fourth in Fredericksburg & FredNats Fireworks Spectacular

This is the big one in the City of Fredericksburg. The Fourth in Fredericksburg is a citywide celebration with daytime events downtown and along the riverfront, capped off in the evening by the FredNats 4th of July Spectacular at Virginia Credit Union Stadium.

The FredNats have already announced 15 firework shows in their 2026 promotional schedule, and given that July 4, 2026 falls on a Saturday during baseball season (and it’s America’s 250th!), you can absolutely expect a big show. Exact times haven’t been published yet for the holiday itself.

Typical date: July 4 (Saturday in 2026)

Typical time: Fireworks around 9:00 PM at Virginia Credit Union Stadium. 2026 timing TBD.

Location: Virginia Credit Union Stadium, 42 Jackie Robinson Way, Fredericksburg, VA 22401

Where to actually watch: The stadium typically isn’t open for general fireworks-only seating during the city show. In recent years, the public has been able to view the show from cars within roughly a 2-mile radius, including the Central Park area near the Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center, and the Fredericksburg Convention Center parking lots.

What else happens on July 4 in Fredericksburg (based on prior years):

  • Fallen Heroes 5 Miler race in the morning
  • Children’s Roll N’ Stroll parade from downtown to Market Square
  • Public Reading of the Declaration of Independence
  • Live music, food, kids’ activities, and an arts and crafts show at Riverfront Park
  • The FredNats baseball game itself (separate ticketed event)

Best for: Families who want the “biggest fireworks in town” experience and don’t mind crowds and traffic.

4. 4th of July Spectacular at John Lee Pratt Memorial Park (Stafford County)

If you live in Stafford, or you want a slightly less hectic alternative to the city show, Pratt Park is the classic Stafford pick. Gates typically open in the early evening with food trucks, lawn games, and live music by the Fredericksburg Concert Band, leading into a fireworks display launched right from the park.

The park sits along the Rappahannock River, which means in years past, the same fireworks have been visible from Old Mill Park across the river, too. Stafford has spent 2025 and 2026 building up its VA250 programming toward this 4th of July, so the 250th edition should be especially big.

Typical date: July 4 (Saturday in 2026)

Typical time: Gates open around 6:00 PM, fireworks around 9:15 PM. 2026 timing TBD.

Location: John Lee Pratt Memorial Park, 120 River Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22405

Cost (in prior years): Free for City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County residents with proof of address. Non-residents have been charged $10 per car or $5 per walk-in. Credit/debit only.

What to expect:

  • Goody bags for the first several thousand guests
  • Food trucks
  • Lawn games (cornhole, giant Jenga, gaga pit, Connect 4)
  • Live performance by the Fredericksburg Concert Band
  • Fireworks viewable from both Pratt Park and Old Mill Park
  • Leashed dogs welcome

What to leave at home: Personal fireworks, sparklers, grills, tents, and alcohol are not permitted.

Important note: The park reaches vehicle capacity quickly. Once full, gates close to incoming cars. Plan to arrive early, or park nearby and walk in.

Best for: Stafford and city of Fredericksburg families, anyone wanting free entry, and folks who love a lawn-chair-and-blanket vibe.

5. Old Mill Park Fireworks Viewing (City of Fredericksburg)

Old Mill Park is technically a viewing spot rather than its own event. The fireworks themselves are launched from across the river at Pratt Park (or, in some years, from Virginia Credit Union Stadium). But for many longtime Fredericksburg families, this is their 4th of July tradition.

It’s quieter than the stadium, you’re right on the river, and on clear nights the show reflects beautifully off the water.

Typical date: July 4 (Saturday in 2026)

Typical time: Fireworks around 9:15 PM. 2026 timing TBD.

Location: Old Mill Park, 2201 Caroline Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401

What to expect:

  • Lawn-chair-and-blanket viewing along the river
  • Parking fills early, especially on holidays
  • A more laid-back vibe than the stadium-area crowds

Best for: Families with little ones who don’t love huge crowds, and anyone who lives in downtown Fredericksburg and wants to walk over.

6. King George Independence Celebration at Sealston Sports Complex

King George’s fireworks show is consistently reported by locals as one of the best in the area, and it has a much more laid-back, small-town feel than the city event. Designed and choreographed by American Fireworks Company, the show has earned a reputation for being a true crowd-pleaser.

Typical date: Around July 4 (specific 2026 date TBD)

Typical time: Fireworks around 9:15 PM. 2026 details TBD.

Location: Sealston Sports Complex (with overflow parking at Sealston Elementary School). Accessible parking available at Sealston Sports Complex.

What to expect:

  • Lawn chair and blanket viewing
  • A genuinely impressive professional fireworks show
  • A small-town community feel
  • Free admission in past years

Best for: King George families, anyone who wants a less crowded alternative to the city show, and folks who appreciate a strong fireworks display without the parking headaches.

Tips for a Smooth 4th of July with Kids in 2026

With this being America’s 250th, every event in the region is expected to be bigger than usual. A few things to keep in mind:

1. Arrive early. Every venue listed above has limited parking, and once parks reach capacity, gates close. For the big events (the city show and Pratt Park), arriving 2 or more hours before fireworks is realistic.

2. Have a backup plan. If the closest event is full, head to the next-closest. Old Mill Park and Pratt Park share a fireworks view across the river. Spotsylvania’s show is a full week earlier.

3. Bring the essentials. Lawn chairs, blankets, water, sunscreen, bug spray, snacks, and noise-canceling headphones for sensitive little ones.

4. Skip the personal fireworks. Personal fireworks (including sparklers) aren’t allowed inside any of these parks and are illegal in some areas. Stick to the professional show.

5. Plan for traffic on the way out. Have a meeting spot in case anyone gets separated, and expect 30 to 60 minutes of slow movement leaving the bigger events.

6. Check the Fredericksburg Moms event calendar in late June. That’s typically when local 4th of July event details get firmed up. We’ll update this guide as 2026 schedules are officially announced.

Have a Star-Spangled 4th of July!

Whether you’re going all-in on the 250th celebration at Ferry Farm, sneaking in an early fireworks night in Spotsylvania, or sticking with your annual tradition at Pratt Park, the Fredericksburg region has a 4th of July spot for every family.
